Etiwanda Marching Regiment takes on Surreal

October 24, 2012

For their 2012 season, the Etiwanda Marching Regiment engages audiences and marching fans with a show that is simply…Surreal.

Entitled Out of His Head, this show takes many twists and turns. The show design features props and inspiration from the Surrealist art movement. Set to composer Scott Director’s arrangements of Harrison’s Dream by Peter Graham, along with the percussion stylings of Bryan Nungaray, the music and show design follow various Surrealist works showcasing the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non-sequiturs. Jeremy Hackworth, band director, invites viewers to expect the unexpected this year.

See the Etiwanda Marching Regiment calendar for half time and contest performance schedule.

Visit Scott Director Music for more information on Original Shows, Compositions and Arrangements for Band.

Gold DBC Competes in DCI Open Class Championships

As the composer for this year’s show, ‘A Different Kind of Show’, I am very proud to be a part of a great team and what is turning out to be an immense growth period for the corps.  This year, the men and women of Gold have proven themselves again and again in competition–I’m sure championship week will be no different.

Stay tuned this week, as I share some footage from Indy of a year that is indeed very different.

Our Earth

March 13, 2012

The Peninsula High School indoor drumline is in full preparation for this weekend’s SCPA (Southern California Percussion Alliance) competition. A lot of the members have never played in a drumline before this winter. They are fast and eager learners; a joy to write music for and rehearse weekly.

Phil Idell also works along my side. Here are his thoughts about the show’s progress.

There is a lot of excitement building towards the weekend from members as well. Watch this video from one of them!

Briarwood Christian Wind Ensemble Receives Superiors!

March 2, 2012

Congratulations to Briarwood Christian High School Wind Ensemble and Band Director Jim Knight, who earned the highest level rating of Superior with Distinction yesterday at the annual Music Performance Assessment in Alabama performing three selections including “Glaciers” by Scott Director.

Jim Knight kindly share these thoughts on Glaciers:

“It’s a very descriptive piece of music, fun to work with … exciting for the students because of the variety of different timbres and colors, moving through the woodwinds, brass and percussion … at one point you can hear huge chunks of glaciers falling into the water.”

Check out the pieces available at Scott Director Music!
